I saw a tiny crowntail at Petsmart tonight, he looked to be in terrible shape...and stole my heart immediately. I have him now in a 2 gallon bowl, added water conditioner. He's moving around some but very slowly, his fins are very clamped. Anything that I should be doing to help him, not sure if he's going to make it or not. Should I keep him in dim lighting to reduce stress, anything else? I want to help him, he's so very tiny...
Hey, good job on the rescue! Make sure he has a place to hide. It will help him if he is stressed. Since is a bowl, make sure you have rocks and some plants in their. A mug can substitute for a cave if needed. Try to get a heater in their! That will help him recover better, also, get some aquarium salt! Congrats on the purchase!
The bowl isn't cycled, I have a heater (it's steady 78 degrees), no filter right now. He seems about the same, tried to get him to eat this morning, no interest. Right now he's hiding in his cave and has been there for hours. He's not moving but his gils are moving a little bit. I'm going to get some aquarium salt tonight, maybe that will help. He's really skinny, pretty much all head if that makes any sense. Keeping my fingers crossed, thanks for the good advice!
I'm sorry he didn't make. You surely tried. If he was kept in a tiny cup with cold, filthy water he must have had some internal damage. There's not much you could have done. At least you gave him a warm place for his last hours. I tried once to save a little betta that lived in a freezing water at a local pet store. I brought him home because the owner asked me to do something for him. He didn't last 3 days but I surely did all I could.
