What's wrong with my betta?

My moontail betta, which I have had for almost a year, is going to the top of the water and floating sideways, still alive. What's wrong with him?

I am thinking maybe a swim bladder issue? My gold fish used to get this....
Does it seem like when he tries to swim down that he is pulled back up by his belly?

Sorry you are having problems...have a few questions...

How big is the tank, how much and how often are the water changes, water temp, filtration, additives, live plants, how much and what kind of food and how is the appetite, any treatments or medications tried?

2 gal tank clean as can be, fed 5 or so pellets 3-4 times a day ... no meds, but just noticed that he only uses his port side fin to swim <g>

could he be afloat because of an injury he suffered in tank?

Well, it's very likely from the overfeeding. You're giving him 4 times the amount that should be fed...They should be fed about 5 pellets per day. So that's 2/3 in the morning and 2/3 at night.

So I would fast him for a couple of days to clear everything out and then cut down on the feeding.

sounds like you are really over feeding. Or he could be constipated.fast him for a day and then see what happens

Just found out that he has a GILL problem... one of his gills do not work... but anyway I am not overfeeding him I meant to put 3-4 pellets a day not 5 pellets 3-4 times a day

I think injury, if not, disease. Anyway he is amazingly still alive, I thought he'd be dead by now, but thankfully he's still going strong.
