Ok guys so no theatrics for this post quite yet. I'll start with a basic version of what's been going on then I'll go into detail.
So before I go any further I meant to say she unplugged my aquarium on Tuesday night... my mind wasn't completely with me at the time. :P
SO MOVING ON
I tested the water and it was over 4.00ppm and close to 8.0ppm!!! I did a 25% WC and it was still over 4.0ppm so I did another 25%. Then it read at either 1.00 or 2.00 ppm so I decided to add the newest bottle of TSS (that still had the expiration sticker on it, it was to expire next November).
I did that and then I realized that all the sponges in my tank were BLUE.
I wasn't really thinking when I bought pantyhose for cycling and I bought black ones. It only occurred to me after seeing how faded the pantyhose were and how blue all of my sponges were that it could be leaking dye.
8[ I decided to ignore this. I figure that when it cycles (IF it cycles) then I can just do a massive water change at the end, add new sponge inside the tank, leave the blue sponge in the filter alone for a while, wait for the new sponges to be seeded then chuck the blue one in the filter.
On the third I did another ammonia test and found that my ammonia was at 4.00 ppm! I was upset about this because the TSS I added can't survive above 4.00ppm.
(at least this is what Tetra Co. told me)
I did a 25% water change and that seemed to lower the levels to 2.00ppm.
I felt relieved. I hoped my TSS was still alive.
I've just completed my ammonia test and it seems it's above 4.0ppm.
I'm pretty upset about this.
I also added my other older bottle of TSS without thinking to change the water first. :I
I'm not the brightest cookie in the closet obviously. Common sense evades me in practical matters like science. :I Thus I'm changing my Major to a BA. :I
I'm about to do a 25% change. Though now I'm considering the possibility of just letting the tank sit. I mean that's what you're supposed to do anyway right?
Idk. :I Does anyone have an opinion on this?
also my piece-o-fish is starting to mold. :I
Now I won't clean it with bleach this time, but should I empty out my tank and start over? Mold scares the begeebies outta me. <:[
If anyone has any guidance they'd like to offer I'll take it! <3
I'll post a theatrical version when I have more time on my hands. XD I'm in the middle of the boys water change ( =] )and I'm doing a project atm ( :/ ).
