Having trouble eating?

I have got betta pellets that i got today along with my fish. I had flakes for my old one but i heard they like pellets better. When i try to give him one..he grabs it with his mouth like a dog then drops it and follows it to the bottom..is it too big for his mouth or?

YES sometimes the pellets are just too big for certain one's mouths...I have 2 younger ones that I have to crush the pellets up for and sprinkle it in. I pre-crush them up with the back of a spoon & keep the bits in a tiny covered jar. You could also try the hikari first bites pellets which are smaller. :)
Good luck!

O ya and as a treat, they all can manage to eat frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp...they love those!

Its hard to get him used to me so he will eat :P hopefully he will grasp the concept soon, that when my hand is over the tank its time for food.

i soak mine and then cut them in quarters. I think it makes my betta feel like he is getting fed more even though its only 1-2 pellets...

That's a good idea too cutting them up...

He'll get used to you :) When he gets hungry enough. LoL

So pretty much it will just take him getting hungry to want food and actually eat the ones i cut in half?

My crowntail didn't eat for a week when I brought him home...he hid a lot & I worried he wouldn't last....but eventually he went for a pellet & decided "ok this giant female creature isn't so bad..." lol
They also can smell it if it falls to the bottom & find it that way...its easier to tell this though with no
gravel.

I have to hold my finger with the pellet over the tank untill he notices, then drop it in and step away from the tank or he wont eat it. =S

I would try pulling out the smaller pellets in the container and see if that helps.

My little betta can only eat them after I soak the pellets in water for a few minutes. Seems to make them easier to swallow.

This happened to me with my HMPK and I soaked them and pretty soon he could eat them dry. Soaking in water does seem to help thought. Theres also the fact that some pellets in the same container can be bigger than others. So that made it even harder for him to eat the pellets.
