Female Beta issues...

My beta Phoebe has been acting strange these last few days, I got a new filter the other day and I don't know if the current is too strong or the heat from the heater isn't distributing. She was acting as if she was turning on her side last night and was floating towards the top. She looks a little better today but has a bubble right underneath her where eggs would come out. Thing is I don't have any male betas right now and I've never had a male and female at the same time. I think she's hanging in there but I'm just so confused! So my question for you all is can a female release eggs w/o having a male around? Thanks!!!

Yes, they can. Maybe the "bubble" that you're seeing is her ovipositor, where the eggs come out.

Healthy females will absorb or release their eggs periodically all through their lives.
