Picture of my girls (Pic Heavy)

I picked these two girls up from a local pet store. They were being kept in a tank less than five gallons big with another larger and more aggressive female. There was one barrel to hide in and it was unheated. As a result, one of the girls has half her tail missing and the other had quite a sizable chunk taken out of hers.

I wasn’t going to buy them, but they had been sitting there for more than a month looking sicker and sicker, so I figured it would make a difference to their lives even if it only does encourage more to be sold in their place.

I think they are from the same spawn since they were put in at the same time. They were too sick/stressed to fight at the pet store but as soon they got in a nice big heated tank, they started wrestling so I had to put up a temporary divider. They learned quickly to eat from my fingers, and I have been fattening them up on frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms and live mosquito larvae.

Eventually they will go in individual four gallon tanks that are a smaller version of the long shallow, 8 gallon one, but for now they are stuck in this semi-ugly one.

Sorry for the above font, it won't seem to change it's format

Thanks everyone . They are very cute, and very feisty, which is the reason I couldn't leave them behind.

I would have a whole room of girls if I could, they make it so much easier in terms of choosing filtration and scaping a tank. My boys spend half their time hyperventilating if I so much as touch the baffle on their filter. But yet they all position themselves right in front of the outlet when I'm doing maintenance. Stupid fish

How cute! The first picture looks like the girl is saying "Omg, what the heck is that huge thing?!" xD

Haha the little girl with the blue fins is a massive jumper. I kind of have to approach the tank very slowly otherwise she gets excited about the possibility of food and jumps a couple of inches out of the water.

The other day she banged her head on the front of the tank trying to jump out to get to her breakfast. Her water level is super low so that she doesn't end up on the floor.

Both my pet store girls are looking good now. I don't think the one with the bitten off tail is growing back but the edges are rounding off and she just looks like a plakat girl now. She's starting to colour up and putting some weight on now she is getting fed properly.
