Going to PS Today!

I finnaly get to go to PS and pick up anything I need for Red's new home. I have been reading a lot of post on this site and discovered I need real plants and not the fake plastic ones I have. So which type of plants do I need and how many for a 20 gallon tank? I also wanted to get a few ghost shrimp and some zebra danio. How many of those should I get? I also been wanting a green female VT but I do not want to overwhelm Red so any suggestions is greatly appriciated. I have about $100 to spare so nothing to pricey.

I don't personally recommend getting a female betta for a friend for your boy betta. He will most likely harass her, even in that size of a tank.

As far as plants go, I'm not too knowledgable on live plants because I've never bothered with them as they are much more time consuming. They are not necessary to have however if you feel like you can handle trying a few, go for it as they do help your water quality and I believe the oxygen content of the water is improved also.

Danios do best when they're schooling so I'd get about six of them for a 20 gallon tank. They're really fun to watch and very hardy.

you dont HAVE to have live plants, so if they intimidate you dont feel like you HAVE to have live plants to make your betta happy. live plants are nice and are better for your betta when taken care of correctly probably.. but I dont have them and a lot of other people dont as well and our bettas are just fine.

Yeah, you don't need live plants. Silk plants (ones made out of fabric) and plastic plants that aren't sharp are just fine. Run your plastic plants across a pair of pantyhose. if they don't snag or tear, the plants are safe to use.

The amount of plants is up to you, but bettas do like coverage, so be sure he has some sort of plant and decor that he can hide in if he needs to.

Zebra danios could be a little overwhelming for your betta, but I guess it depends on each individual fish. They like to school so you should get about 6 of them.

Do not put a female betta in the same tank without a divider! They can and will fight.

Smile Thanks

ok I will hold off on the female for now and see how he does with the danios. He seems gentle right now but of course he have not been with other fish. I think I will get some silk plants instead of real. Thanks for all your input I apprciate it. Off to the pet store now!
