Exclamation Help: Dividers

Hi, so I came home from being away all weekend and noticed in my divided 5 gallon tank that both my bettas were together in the same area, and there fins are EXTREMELY beat up, one betta actually has a popped eye I think :( I am so upset because there were my 2 favourites and I wanted them to have a nice planted, heated, filtered tank. anyways....I figured out they got to each other through the cracks between the wall and divider, so I used sponge to cover it for now, but does any one have a better suggestion??? I also took one betta out just so it doesn't happen again.

You could glue the divider to the tank with aquarium sealant. How much of a gap was there?

Hmmm I'd rather not just in case one day I get out of bettas and want to use it for other fish lol. Um well now that I actually look at it really well it's quite a gap just in one part though. What could I stick in there lol

If you want to keep them in the same tank you should probably look for a more permanent way to keep the divider in.. in my 10gal I have two report folder bindings glued in with aquarium sealant. The divider itself can slide out and back in to the bindings, so I can either have it split in two or as a single tank space.

You could make a new divider out of plastic craft mesh.

you'll have to glue it one with sealant to make it safe.
it can be removed again with a razor blade no problem
