Exclamation Cold fishy... need tips

It is getting cold lately where I live, and my fish is chilly. He has a heater, and he stays by it all the time. He was a lot worse yesterday, but now he is more active. Any tips for my poor cold fishy?

I have 2 suggestions;

1) Try wrapping his tank in newspaper or a sweater to insulate it from the ambient temperature of the room.

2) If you have an electric blanket or heating pad you can put those under, near the tank on low or medium to provide additional heating. Just be careful not to over heat.

how big is your tank?

get atleast 10 gal if you want your aquarium water stable.
its only 12.99 at petco (14bucks with tax)
i can see the difference between 10 gal and 2.5 gal water temp avg.

Yes, you can use a heating pad. I use those for my quarintine tanks that are unheated. Do you have a heater in your'e house? You could put them by it. Or you could buy a better heater. Also, try bigger tanks, they have more stable temps.

I keep elastic (cellophane) food covers over the top to keep the humidity and heat in. I have a cylinder and hexagon tanks so they fit. I was advised to use cling wrap. At night I wrap the tanks in a towl and cover the tops with another towl. good luck, it's hard when the house it cold. I also have my filters near my heaters so the spread the warm water around.

It is a 2.5 tank, and I can't move him. I can not fit a 10 gallon tank in my room, sorry.
I am scared to wrap up his tank - what if he gets sick because of thecold and I can't see him? :( Poor fishy... I hope it gets warmer...

I have a 2.5 gallon, and my heater keeps it a stable temperature...

How many watts is your heater? Is it adjustable or preset?

It is preset because my petsmart has no adjustable heaters for my tank size.
The heater is 5 watts... I think...
