Hello all, I'm new and just wanted to say thanks!

I'd been contemplating getting a Betta for a while and after seeing some of the poor guys in the fish section of Walmart yesterday I decided to rescue one. Being largely uninformed I of course thought that a 1 gallon bowl would be plenty of room so I got that, a bag of gravel and some food pellets.

Thank goodness for this website and all the people that post here. after reading up here a bit I went to a pet store and got him a 2.5 tank, a small heater and a thermostat to keep an eye on the temp and he already seems a lot happier then he was in the smaller bowl. I did completely forget to get him some tall plants and a cave to hide in so I'll be going back on my way home from work tomorrow to pick those up as well. I just wanted to drop in and say hi, and to thank you all for the info made available here!

Thanks everyone! He's finally starting to eat a little too. He does seem to greatly prefer bloodworms to the regular Betta food. Is that ok or should I buy another brand of Betta pellets and see if he likes those?

Bettas are notoriously picky eaters, so if you find something he will eat I'd stick with it, just remember to throw in some pellets or brine shrimp in every now and then for variety

Welcome to the forum~
So long as the blood worms are frozen rather than freeze dried, they'll be fine, though you might want to try and make him eat pellets as well to balance it all out.
