Think my betta is going to die :((

So my fish was perfectly fine all week. i wanted to spoil my fish so i put a heater in there and a thermometer. Not even the next day he is just hiding in his skull... now he is laying almost lifeless at the bottom of tank just breathing. I cleaned out his tank and put it all back in.. good thing its right next to my comp cuz next thing i know he is not even strong enough to get away from the filter, its sucking his fin in. So i unplug it he spases out and then ends up on bottom just breathing.

Is he in shock or is he sick i dono what to do.

His heater and thermometer are no longer in there now

What was the temperature of your tank when you put the heater in?

Lower the water level to let him reach air easier.

What size tank? How many watts is the heater? Did you acclimate the fish to the warmer water? Over what period of time did the temperature rise? Like 1 degree every hour, or what? What was the tank's original temperature, and what temperature did it rise to before you took it out?

Sorry for all the questions, but if you can answer those questions it will help us get a better understanding of what happened to your fish/ how to help him....

Unfortunately, you can not just put a heater in a tank without sending your fish into shock... you have to float the fish in a container of his old water inside the warmer tank until the temperature of the container and the tank match.... I am very sorry about your fish...

yea i guess i might have messed up with acclimating him right, the heater says it automatically sets to 78 and i already had the thermometer in for a day and it said 78, the next day the thermometer read 80 and that was as high as it got.

came back this mornin and he has passed away, i am very sad about this.. I tried my best to save him. Its my first fish i made a mistake of not acclimating him to a new heater. I will take more precautions on the next fish and make sure i take all the right steps everytime i do something for my fish.

I will probably go ahead and buy another, i only had this one for a week.

Where do you guys buy ur betta's?

Sorry about your loss :/ The pet stores near you, a breeder, or aquabid.com are the best places for getting betta fish :)
