Quick Question

I currently have a 29 gallon tank with 1 male betta and 8 neon tetras. I would like to divide the tank into 3 and get 2 more male bettas once the neon tetras have passed away. In the past I have had 4 tetras with my betta and the tetras picked on my betta. So my question is as the neon tetra population gets smaller should I put a divider in the tank to separate the tetras from the betta so they will leave him alone?

Are they being aggressive towards him now..? If so.. You will need to seperate them for the safety of your Betta as well as the Tetras.. And if you do take out the Tetras..Than a 29g tank divided three ways would be just fine.

No the tetras are leaving the betta alone right now but as they pass away and the group gets smaller I am afraid they will start bothering my betta. I was just wondering if dividing the 29 gallon into 2 would work with the neons on one side and the betta on the other if the neons start to bother my betta.

You could.. But personally.. I wouldnt waste the money and time in buying a divider and setting it up.. You could just give the Tetras back to the Pets store..

Yea I thought about taking the tetras back to the store - I need the divider anyways so I can split my tank when I put a total of 3 bettas into the tank. If the numbers of the tetras drop much smaller I will probably take them to the pet store so they can be in a bigger group which will make them happier anyways

How many do you have now? Because if you do get a divider..instead of putting the Tetras in the section you could go ahead and take them back and get a new Betta..?

Right now I have 8 tetras - but I need money to get the bettas =) I asked for a gift card to the aquarium store that I really like for Christmas so after New Years I have plans to go to that store (I am going out of town for a few days for New Years and dont want to get new fish and then leave).
