It's fine to put bamboo into your tank, you just have to make sure the leafy part of the plant is above the water. The bamboo will die eventually so you have to take it out after that but it generally takes a while.

Leaving the water out for 24-48 hours won't remove chloramine from tap water, which is poisonous to fish, so I would wait until you get more water conditioner to do any water changes. Prime really is the best buy. I've had one bottle for over a year. :)

alright thanks everyone ill be going to petsmart tomorrow to get a tank lid,light,heater and more conditioner but ill hafta grow the bamboo out a little more

A cap per each 1/2 gallon of water for conditioner? Ouch.

get a product called Prime, 2 drops per 1 gallon, will last you much much longer.
