Mung Daal is dying :(

He has dropsy... bad :( We noticed him just starting to pinecone and put him in a hospital tank with some aquarium salt every other day, and 100% water changes every day. It just got worse. He is HUGE!!! and his scales pretty much stick straight out :( Its sad, I don't know what to do :(

I'm sorry. I prefer not to euthanize as apparently there is a disease with the EXACT same symptoms of dropsy. My male had it. Pineconing, low activity, laying on side, bloating. But after a couple weeks he pulled through. He is now happily living in his 5 gallon. I'd feel bad if I killed him, and later realized he could have lived.

I really hop he pulls through. Did you do anything special to help him through it?

Oh good luck! Don't remove him or anything because he's probably really stressed out. You could get some AQ salt, it MIGHT help. I hope he makes it!!! *Go on Betta, you can do it!*

He is in a 1 gallon hospital tank with aq salt, covered by a dark towel to help keep him from getting stressed. I really hope he recovers :)

Your probally best off to treat with epsom salt. Oldfishlady recomended it to me for my girls when they had it. It reduces swelling ? (i think)

I'm sooooo sorry your boy is sick. I would suggest a salt bath to help reduce the swelling! Unfortunately there are 2 different types of "dropsy" the first is severe bloating which would cause the scales to stick out because of how swollen the belly is. This causes loss of color, lethargy, ect. And can be cured with fasting, and salt baths to help decrease swelling.

The other form, the actual disease, dropsy. Is caused by organ failure, and the swelling is caused by fluid buildup under the skin. Sometimes salt baths can help if its caught super early. But most of the time this form is fatal.
