How long before I know if my betta likes a new addition to his tank?

I made him a clear shelf for him to rest in. How long should I leave it in there before I get the hint that he doesn't like it and remove it? I am trying to give him a upper level resting place because I don't like him resting behind his filter.

I don't think you have to remove it if he doesn't use it unless you don't like the way it looks in the tank.

I made a shelf from someone's idea...the plastic soap dish with suction cups. I then strung up some silk ivy leafs (the leafs were original attached to wired stems) and tied them to the dish for additional cover, top of the tank, coverage. My little guy ignored it at first, then started to investigate and decided, eventually that he liked it and uses it from time to time. It's been dubbed the betta beddy by basket.

It was in with my betta that died not too long ago. He was the same way, took some time, investigated, then used. I think a week is fair from my experience. Don't expect full time usage...see it more as just another option within the tank. I also have mine near the heater...don't know if that makes a difference, but could.

It looks like he is building a bubble nest around it LOL I guess it stays for now

Sounds sort of like the Betta hammock. If it is anything like it and you want him to rest on it, not just blow bubbles, put the top of the suction cup almost on the surface of the water. ex.: ---o---- (the o is the suction cup and the - is the surface)

After looking at this photo, I think it could stand to be just a wee bit closer to the water's surface. I've checked out the floating betta log reviews at the PetsMart website and I think I may get one of those too.
