Tsuhei: im actually interested in the viola, how is it compared to the violin? easy to get the hang of? lol
Drift: I heard of the Didgeridoo recently. pretty interesting instrument. lol. My boyfriend is pretty good at picking up instruments too. He played drums and guitar and i think it was trombone in honor of his grandfather. He even had an ocarina.
Busted: That sucks that you weren't able to play through school.
(: i wish i could reply to everyone lol.
Well the Viola was kind of the equivalent to me in terms of being "easy" to learning how to play the cello... Many of my friends went from Violin to Viola, and had an even easier time adapting to it than me since they were used to how you had to hold it and the smaller hand positions. I prefer the Viola in many ways to the Violin for its richer undertones, but the Violin more for its higher melodic opportunities..
Really, though, I think you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. (Plus, it tends to have more treble clef and alto clef based music...since you already know treble, it'll be easier to transition than it was for me transferring from bass clef to treble...It's actually easier for someone who plays cello to transfer to violin and from bass to transfer to viola than anything..it's just the way the strings are.
