Well today is day four, so I've fasted him for 3 days. OFL- I've been putting the espom salt water directly into the tank. I'm going to feed him a small brine shrimp or two today, hopefully that can fill him up some and help his constipation. He's still tilting slightly sideaways this morning /= I'm hoping that Velvet gets well soon!

Make sure the Epsom salt is dissolve well before you add it to the fish-the crystals can burn them...good that he is getting better....it can take some time.....keep up the good work.....

OFL - Don't worry, I mix the salt into the water really well BEFORE I pour it into the tank. I'll probably be feeding my fish soon since todays a busy day...

Oh no! I just realized I'm out of brine shrimp! I fed Velvet one pellet soaked in water and that's all that he's getting today...

EDIT: He's still constipated. His poop is hanging out...it's also white and fuzzy with a few brown dots in it... I've read that parasites are white and stringy though. His stomach is nothing like the pics I've seen of a constipated Betta, so for the moment it's not an emergency. He's still constipated though, so how do I "Clear" him up?

I found Epsom salt at Walgreen's...

I've been using it to treat Drax's bad eye... not much salt at a time... just a few TSP's for the whole tank along with AQ salt and his eye strangely enough has been slowly improving... so it gets my seal of approval! *Thumbsup*

Also... because I only read the first few posts... what is SBD... oh Swim Bladder Disorder? Hmm... doesn't that normally correct itself from a day or two of salting and fasting? ... and of course... :3 Love.

Grrr Velvet why do you have to worry me so? Is it possible that parasites can cause SBD since they cause a larger stomach?

His stomach is very large now )= How did it grow so quickly? He's becoming more severly constipated and is stuck on his side and can't right himself again. HELP!

You may need to stop all food for a week and increase the Epsom salt to 2tsp/gal along with the 100% daily water changes-adding tannins will really help too as I described earlier....don't let the water temp get over 80F or you can risk other problems with a compromised fish...when you look down at him does the swelling look the same on each side or does done side look bigger than the other...a good clear pic of his stomach would be helpful......both side view and from above.....how is he acting other than the bloat, constipation and side swimming?
