Wink Do Bettas NEED to breath?

I just set up my 10 gallon tank and filter a few hours ago. The filter puts in a decent amount of bubbles an airrates the water well.

I know that Bettas need to breath air to survive a non-oxygenated envirement. Well, my tank is oxygenated very well. So, do you think a sorority could exist where the females don't need to breath? I'm pretty sure they still need to breath, but I'm not certain.

I'm just wondering. If they need to breath I might see them every once in a great while LOL. (I don't have a sorority yet, but I'm guessing the females will hide ALOT.

Yes, even if the tank is oxygenated, they still need air. If they can't get air at the surface, they'll drown.

Yes they need access to the air. Bettas can only get so much oxygen from water....they must have an airspace.

When bettas are shipped there's only enough water in the bag to cover the betta and the rest is air.

Yup just as I suspected...

Thanks everyone! It wouldn't be fun to have 5 drowned Bettas staring at me from the gravel bed on thier sides...
