Can someone take a quick look for me?

Hi everyone,
I just took a couple of quick pictures of Horatio. I've only had him for a couple weeks, so I wanted to make sure he's doing okay. I'm a little concerned that the end of his fins are a bit frayed. For the first two days I owned him he was in a tiny betta cube with plastic plants, and I'm concerned that they might have frayed him. (Not sure if it's fin rot, though.) I've since switched to silk plants.

As for specifics, he is now in a 2.5g tank, heated, no filter. Today I did a 100% water change. I feed him pellets...3-4 once a day. He seems to be doing fine--he is active and has a good colour, except for the bits of white on the end of his fins:

That betta looks alot like the VT I almost got last month! Beautiful!

The fins are abit ridged. I don't know if that is a bad thing or not. I doubt it will be a problem if you keep up with your water changes and maitane good water quality. Maybe someone else has better imput on the topic.

How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Hasn't really; he is still active. He spends a lot more time at the top of his tank than the bottom.

Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Haven't done anything yet besides a 100% water change today

How old is your fish (approximately)? Have owned for a week

Hmm well it may be that he's still getting used to his surroundings. He could have some form of depression, was he around other fish when he was at the pet store? Has the water temp ever dropped then been raised rapidly? Do his fins look as if another fish has been eating them away? Make sure that you don't cycle out the entire tank when you do it, your killing all the beneficial bacteria that keeps the chemical levels in check in your tank. Let me know if you can get some test strips so you can give us a reading on the water.

I don't think he has any behavioural issues at this point, I'm most just wondering about the state of his fins. :) I didn't know that I shouldn't change 100% though...still figuring all that stuff out. :P Hopefully there wasn't too much beneficial bacteria there yet, since he's only been in this tank for a week....

Anyone have any thoughts on the state of his fins?

His fins look fine to me. Looks like the picture of a healthy happy betta.

Be sure to post pics if his tail starts looking worse, but I think he looks fine!

I think your betta looks perfectly healthy. It appears to me that maybe the lighter areas are younger fins that have not gained their full pigmentation yet. Another possibility is variegated fins.
