Green tea and water conditions

I've heard sprinkled around many places that green tea (de caffinated) is beneficial but they've failed to explain how... And I'm curious to how this would help in caring for bettas, as well as to what effects it has on the water. If anyone knows what the benefits to this are please tell me as I'm very curious :) I tried googling this and couldn't find much of anything, except for someone mentioning that chamomile makes them really calm and that teas can help with spawning.

Not going to do this yet, unless there is a clear benefit with no harm :)

Green tea releases tannins into the water. This is thought to be beneficial to fish whose ancestors have grown up in leaf-stained, tannin-enriched water. Tannins are a mild antiseptic and anti-parasitic to guard against skin and internal infections. They stain the water amber or teas colored.

Green tea is controversial. Sometimes it causes adverse reactions. Rooibos tea (actually a bean) also releases tannins which are good for Betta. IAL (Indian Almond Leaf) aka Katapang leaf is the most frequently used tannin-infuser. Most keepers consider IAL the gold standard.

Birch, Oak, Manzanita, and some other hardwoods release beneficial tannins. As do Alder cones.
