Dropsy and Sanitizing Your Tank

Hey guys,

I know its been awhile since I've posted, but I'm here now seeking some advice. Sadly, my first betta Flapjack passed away yesterday from dropsy and I would like to know if its really necessary that I sanitize my tank, or will hot water and a good scrubbing be fine? Also, I had a live plant in his tank, is it safe to reuse it, or should I throw it away? Thanks

It really depends on what caused the dropsy-usually a good tear down and cleaning with warm water is all that is needed and a good rinse of the plant...when in doubt using a diluted bleach will not hurt with a good rinse after and a little extra dechlorinator with the final re-fill-often the things that cause problems for our fish are from things that are always in the tank and always will be-the only difference is the numbers/amount- especially if it is bacterial in nature.

Sorry for your loss...look forward to seeing pic and hearing about you next Betta.....
