I have a 10 g tank with one male.
I'm having a problem with algae, I am doing the 50% water changes a week, I have the heater, filter, and a real plant. It seems I've gotten nothing but problems since I started using natural plants. At first the plant was beutiful and grew and Harold would love hiding in it, etc.
I started noticing algae forming on the glass closest to the plant, and it just keeps getting worse and worse.
I wiped it off (for now), but I'm sure it's in the gravel too so, do I have to do a whole tank cleaning and gravel change?
I'm getting rid of the plant and go back to artificial hiding places for him.
Any suggestions on dealing with algae?

Does the tank get a lot of direct sunlight? Are you using any fertilizers? Do you leave the light on for long periods of time?

Algae can happen with fake or real plants. Get one of those magnet things and wipe it off the glass with your water changes. It isn't necessary to replace the gravel because you have some algae on the glass. Just do your usual gravel vacs and keep up with the wiping of the glass.

Otos are great for cleaning up algae as well. They stay tiny and from what I've read they are usually ok with betta boys. Live plants are so great for the tank..don't give up!
