Scales coming off possibly?

Hello all. I have a King betta in a 1 gal. tank who appears to be losing scales on his skull above his eye. I'm assuming its an open sore, though I really don't know. It happened after I transferred him to a new tank about an hour ago. He had trouble swimming in the old tank, like there was a weight attached to his tail fin. I checked alot of other sites and they said to use aquarium salt. Is this right?
