Fancy Guppy, regular Guppy, what is the difference?

Hi. I have never kept guppies before. I am considering putting guppies in my empty (with snails) 5g tank.

The tank is still cycleing (for the next couple weeks) and I need 1 guppy to speed up the cycle. My lfs only has fancy guppies, not normal. Are fancy's likely to survive the cycle (with water changes)? Are they as hardy or almost as hardy as the regular guppies? I can't imagine a fish being so beautiful, and still be as hardy as guppies (oh wait...bettas).

Is there any differences in hardiness or any other areas?

Fancy Guppie= Colorful, long tail
Guppie= Not colorful, short tail.

i believe they are. they managed to survive me, back in elementary school, when they never got wcs, for a good long time........if that's anything to judge by. :(

Would there be a problem mixing fancies and common/regular guppies (if they are all males)?

i wouldn't think so, since they'd all be males you wouldn't have any cross-breeding. but even if you did get females and they breed, i don't think it'd be a big problem, other than ending up with less "fancy" babies.

Can I mix guppies with endler's? Like maybe 2 guppies and 2 endler's in a 5 gallon tank?

not sure on that one. i feel like they're closely related tho, and they might cross-breed, which you probably wont want. plus, in a 5 gallon, they'll probably breed, and overpopulate in about a week, lol, so i'd stick with one or the other

I think that it would work if you got all males or all females if you get all female make sure when you get them they aren't pregnent
