Thumbs up New Turtle Tank (Pics)

So Squirt, my 1 year old Red Ear Slider, just got a new tank upgrade. I adopted him in February of '10, he was around 3 months old and the size of a quarter (around an inch). He's now around a year old and has grown like a weed. He's just under 3 inches. He started out when I got him, in a 10 gallon tank. A few weeks after, I upgraded him to a 29/30 gallon tank. Yesterday, he got upgraded to a 55 gallon tank, with a nice size canister filter.

He's loving the tank, though it's huge compared to him, but he's having a blast with all the swimming space. This tank should last him about a year, before he'll need to be upgraded again. At that point, he should be big enough to tell whether he's male or female, which will determine the next size tank I'll need. Around a 90 gallon if he's a boy, a 125-150 if he's a she.

Yeah, I joined here right around the exact same time I got Squirt. In fact, I adopted Squirt and Tofu (my blue crowntail betta that led me to this forum, who passed away unfortunately) just days apart. Squirt was just a tiny little thing when I got him. I need to take an updated comparison photo to show how he's grown.

What a lucky guy! I'm so glad you are working hard and keeping him in big spaces.. People don't realize how much waste even a little guy like him can make! And they underestimate how much they love to swim! He or she looks very happy and healthy!

I really love sliders, we have a pond in our yard that has about 50 adults and every year little babies are born.. Such cute little guys! I don't know if I'd ever want to have one, as wonderful as they are.. Honestly I'm just not really interested in so many animals that require waterchanges LOL! Spot cleaning a terrarium is just so much easier for me to deal with. I think I'd rather go with a tortoise :3

But this guy makes me doubt my choice XD he's just so cute!
