Wink My little throw together sorority

Here is one of the small tanks I will be taking back with me to college. Its 5.5 gallons with a baffled filter, the filter being ment for a 30 gallon but I like running it like this lol. Sand and gravel bed mixture planted with leftover shoots 2 lillies an anubis some java fern and crypts etc. And one giant plastic log lol which is defended valiantly but one girly double tail.
Also meet some of my girls. Melissa the blue and red crowntail, Roger the mostly red and a little blue dragon delta tail with a smigin of crowtail in her, Stupid red dragon crowtail, and Love the double tail gal who I may or may not keep. Roger is the alpha girl she was the runt of a litter of fry and has more personality then my dog sometimes. Stupid is named stupid from the mindless things she does like looking at a rock for hours didnt try to eat it just watched it.

Ha ha yes 5.5 gallons and thanks you guys :) I might breed the DBT but so far her interest in males is like zero even with conditioning.

I've only ever been told to use 10+ gallons for a Sorority. How did you get it to work in a 5.5 gallons?

There are two major issues I think when dealing with small sororities, bioload and fighting. I get around that by planting then using a larger baffled filter. The females I have introduced earlier in a larger tank to determine if they can go together, I would have added another green ct female but she was to bossy. Then I just intoduce them at the same time so their all on neutral ground and watch to be sure that there isnt any unnecessary fighting. The only ones I was worried about is the dt and the blue ct they went at it for about a half an hour but I left them because they werent doing to much harm to each other. Thats the only skirmish ever but this tank is only a week old so. Its alot of knowing which females can be together personality and size wise. Also their all close to the same size, the dbt being the largest but she is very mellow, and I try to keep the number over 3 females so no one in particular is picked on. Whats cute is these girls love to follow each other now. No one of them has nipped fins or any signs of fighting either.

Aww, sounds fun. I don't have an empty tank for a sorority, but I am thinking of dividing my 3 gallon for 2 girls. With a male Betta, I wouldn't do that, but the female I have is TINY, and I really want another girl. I love my Aurora's personality!
