good aquarium smell?

so i think my tanks cycling along all nice, sponge baffle for the filter is all gunky and the plastic plants all have slime on em...
and now my 10g smells like... well pond. isn't an unpleasant pond smell... Im just wondering if this is a good sign as well it definately smells like some sort of ecosystem lol

It may smell slightly of ammonia now, or algae if you're having algae blooms. When its all said and done, your tank should give off a faint, earthy smell. If you ever smell sulfur, that means that toxic gas produced by anaerobic bacteria has built up in your gravel. And if a fish or snail has died in the tank, you will start to smell something quite rotten.

yeah, mine has the earthy pond smell. like a clean pond with frogs and fish and good wildlife. ive smelled nasty marsh and nah this is the good earthy smell...like an oolong or pu errh tea
