I bought some girls at a LFS and two were supposed to be veiltail females. But now that I've had them for a while, one of the girls has grown substantially and doesn't look quite like the other.
Her dorsal and anal fins have gotten much larger and the caudal fin is very round. The pelvic fins have also gotten much longer. She has quite a lot of color, mostly dark purples and reds with blue at the edges. At first I thought maybe she was a halfmoon female, but then the pelvic fins grew longer and the anal fin became more of a distinct triangle. I didn't see any pictures of a female with fins like that. I'm sorry, I don't have a way to take a photo of her at the moment.
I'm pretty new to raising bettas and there's a lot I don't know about them. Can some females get fins like that? Is there a specific way to determine the sex of a betta? My friend also has a veiltail female and neither of ours looks like this mystery betta!
I used this website's information:

Her fin shapes look like the male's. :(
