betta died:(

last night everything was fine but when i woke up he was floating on the top dead. he looked a little white and some of his scales fell off. any ideas on what happened? Two days before that the same thing happened to 1 of my corys i did a 80% water change hoping everything would be fine. Does anyone know what is happening to my tank???

What was the water temp? How often do you do water changes? How often do you feed?

temp is 75, water change once a week30%-40% and i feed once a day. do you think it could have been a ammonia or nitrate poisoning?

Hm..I'm afraid i'm stumped :/ Someone more knowledgable than me will hopefully chime in soon ^^ On another note though, 75 is too cold for those fish, the mininum IMO is 77. I keep my betta at 80.

It might be possible that the ammonia level was really high...only way to know is to check with a kit though. How long did you have the tank set up for? Maybe you put too many fish in at once making ammonia spike?

If you've only had the tank for three weeks and no test kit I would guess that it is because your tank wasn't cycled before you added your fish. I would remove your remaining critters right away or do a 100 percent waterchange right away to make sure they don't die as well(remember to make sure the water temp is the same and that you use water conditioner). You could research how to cycle your tank here: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=47838
good luck!
