Algae problem...

I have a real algae problem in my 14 gal tank. I have one male betta with live plants. What kind of fish do some of you have that eats the algae and does good with your male betta? I know male bettas differ on compatibility, but can anyone suggest one that has a good compatiblity record?? I've been doing research and I'm leaning towards an otto...I don't want to do snails.

Thanks so much!!

Otos are definitely the best. I had some with my males and never had a single problem. You'll be lucky if you see them, but they make short work of a tank full of algae. Just make sure that if they clean everything out of the tank, you provide algae wafers for them.

Otos are amazing little guys. I have them in my tanks and they are an awesome night time cleaning crew :)

Otos need to be in groups. I recommend 3 or more.

Thanks again....just doing research on Ottos. Appears to be many different kinds! How do I know which one to get??? I'm thinking its supposed to be otto otocinclus, but sounds like they are hard to find.....do you think petco would have them?

Petsmart and Petco only sell one kind of oto. They aren't hard to find. My petsmart doesn't know what "oto" is. I have to go by the name Otocinclus catfish.

Thanks again for the quick reply! I will get (3)...hopefully Neekis (my 4 yr old sons betta, which he picked out the name for) will do okay with them. :)
