I can't really drain the entire tank, it's in the process of a cycle. The fish was in the tank before though with that sponge for a while and he was fine. I took it out, and did a water change..I'll continue to do them. Thanks.

I'm glad I went back to this before setting up my tank because I was going to use a normal sponge. So the filter sponge can be found at a petsmart/petco?

Ok so I just went to petco and petsmart to find filter sponges.. and I came up with the closest thing I could find. I got a 'foam pad' in the filter section. I think its made to go inside the filter.. but can I still use it as a baffle?

Thats the same stuff im using for my baffle lol!! it seems to let bit of a flow through it though at first but as the water soaks in it within a few days it starts to work well at it just to let you have a heads up.
