new tank question

I just got a 2.5 frame from petsmart with a glass canopy. How can I add a heater and filter without taking of the canopy? I was also thinking about cycleing it for shrimp. What do you think?

I agree. A picture would help get some suggestions of any moderations that need to be made..

Cycling is ALWAYS a good idea, in my opinion. Sometimes difficult to do in smaller tanks, but not impossible.

The tank is 12 inches long, 7 1/2 inches high and about 5 inches wide. I would only use it for cherry shrimp. I can't post a pic because I don't have a camera. Sorry.

Do you know the brand and type? Maybe we could look it up on the petsmart website?

Isn't he/she talking about the standard 2.5 gallon tanks? They are topfin brand if that helps but I think he/she is referring to the basic 2.5 tank that comes with the glass canopy.

I don't know how you can keep the glass top on and have the heater cord and filter on the tank too. I just have a heater and I don't even bother with the glass top. Is the filter a HOB? Or is it a filter that sits inside the tank?

The only solution I can think of is cutting the glass canopy to your needs or maybe making an acrylic one.

Shrimp are sensitive to water parameters so I would test the water before getting any shrimps.
