carbon?

I must have missed this in all my pre-betta research. Am I supposed to be adding carbon to my filter? Is this an important part of filtration that I'm just completely missing?

I have the minibow 2.5 and the aqueon filter it came with - do these filter cartridges already contain carbon?

Thanks!

FWIW, carbon is not needed. I use aquarium sponges in ALL my filters big & small and give the sponges a good swish/rinse in used tank water when they need it. Saves a TON of money!!! :)
