Need a cave recommendation?

Hi! Im new here..Mother to my darling Ludwig!
I just received him yesterday :) I am absolutely in love with Bettas now..
I never realized they were not supposed to be in those tiny bowls...
I jsut bought oen and he is in the 2.5 tank with filter, he has been swimming like crazy since I got him yesterday..

Anyway, I can't seem to find a ncie small smooth cave..? Any thoughts or websites to look at?? My tank is only a 2.5, I have one green small silk plant in there now..

I would browse around your local pet stores and see if you can find something that you like. You can also use a small terra cotta pot. I have used both the smallest "normal" terra cotta pot, and the ones labeled for orchids.

Or, if you have a little time and even the smallest amount of creativity, you can make your own cave. I have done this and really enjoy it. You can buy river rocks at the pet store or walmart/dollar tree. Make sure they don't have a film of some sort on them. I used ones that I found outside. I washed them really well and made sure they were very dense and smooth. Get some aquarium safe silicone (some users have used hot glue) and build away! Do a little at a time so the glue can dry and then once it's done let it cure for 24 hours.

It's really not as hard as it seems, and is neat to have something of your own.

Here's an example of my terra cotta pot. I buried part of it into the substrate.

Below is an image of the cave I made. I broke an extra terra cotta and then attached rocks. I just sanded the rough edges of the broken pot. My fish really like this one. I attached a java fern to it.

Hey Lucy, just wondering what sort of sealant you are after? Like a silicone to seal a leak? or a paint on type to treat/seal a material or item to go into your tank?

Also you may find this interesting/inspiring. I would love to eventually do something like this for my tank... on a much smaller scale of course lol

guhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhh

Why did you do that? Now I HAVE TO.
It's a good thing I'm taking 3-D design in the fall.
Every class does their final in Cardboard or Foam Core.
I could probably swing one of these for my final if I make it elaborate enough..............

And both actually!
I want to re-seal the edges of my 10 gal.
It's gotten stressed from sitting out in the cold for so long and I want to be extra safe.
And the paint on would be GREAT for making my own tank decorations!

You know those really pretty coffee mugs at walmart right now?
Those are aquarium safe as far as I know since it's already been glazed and it's dishwasher safe.
To be extra sure, after we figure out where to get the paint on sealant you could re-coat it to be sure. I think those mugs look very stylish. :)
