Should I get a heater or no??

So I have my Ludwig in a 2.5 G tank...He is by a warm window, where he gets some sunlight alot of the day, but not direct..The thermometer is the one that sticks on the side of tank ..The numbers are 68, 72, 75, 79....
The 72 is always light blue, the 75 is always the brightest green, and the 79 is a dull red...So I assume its about 75 degrees...
Over the last few days, which has been extremely cold outside, the temp, never went under the 72, Actually its usually always bright green at 75..
So is it really necessary to get one??? My Ludwig has been swimming and so active since I bought him....

it sounds like your betta is in an area where temperature fluctuates a lot. It would probablybe a good idea to get one so the temperatures stays a constant, warm temperature, like 78 degrees.

Ok..Thanks..Ive been thinking about it.. but the temp hasnt really changed..Its basically been at a solid 75, but not sure if 75 is hot enough..He is so active now, I can only imagine what he will be like if I have it at 80..LOL

Quick question thread should be a sticky, and this question should've been in the quick question thread. You need a heater regardless. Temperates fluctuates during day and night.

Bettas tend to be happiest around 78 degrees, so 75 is a bit cold. If the temp falls much further under that, it starts to get extremely uncomfortable for your fishy. I'd recommend a heater. They're not terribly expensive and they're necessary for a happy, healthy Betta, especially in an environment where the temperature fluctuates that much.

OK..Well for 78 degrees then I will get one, but is 3 degrees a large flucuation? Actually it onyl does that for maybe a few hrs a day...Liek I said its at 75 all day..And that is in the coldest weather possible

Do you recommend a 10W or 25W...I think only the 25W you can set or adjust???

75 is pretty much the minimum, but a constant stable temperature for a betta is much better. A small preset heater will do just fine in a small tank like yours.
