Also, I want to go out and get he submersible therm..Cause the oen I have now is the one you stick outside the tank, so maybe its not reliable

If you do plan on getting one stay away from the Tetra preset heaters at Walmart. I have had 2 of these and returned both. They say they keep the water at 78 degrees +/-2 degrees but mine was never over 74. I had it in a 5 gallon tank and the heater was for up to 30 gallons and didnt do its job. We went to Meijer and bought 50 watt adjustable heaters. They work great, we have them in all 3 of our tanks:)
