I was thinking of breeding some bettas.. suggestions?

However, how many bettas would i get out of this, that end up having to be seperated? I have a 5gal tank i could use, but thats the biggest, as the other tanks are all occupied. So how many males would i get? Keep in mind, this is my first time breeding bettas, so im no master. And, when would they be big enough to sell?

I am new to breeding too and trying my hand at it right now. From what I read and see on youtube, bettas can have a lot of babies, like 50-100. As for males and females, you never know what you are going to get. I see most of the time people get more females than males. You just have to make sure to have room to house them all. Jars, cups, tanks. Its a pain...yet I still wanna try it :P

I think I read at least 6 months before you can sell. And yeah, it is a lot of work and time. I would read through all the posts on here and look up youtube videos to see if your ready for something like this. I will be trying my hand at it more when I move into me new house. Right now I am renting and have 9 bettas in a small bedroom. I am just trying to get one pair to breed so I know I have a pair that will :P

From the bettas I see at the stores, I asked and they said they are at least 5-6 months of age. Some I can see that are really really small are less than that, but if you want your $'s worth I would let them grow up to see what they are going to look like. At least with the males.

If you leave them out yes. They will start to smell bad and can then host bad things for your fish. Always keep them frozen and never over feed. Most will nibble a corner chunk so with mine I just smash up the cubes and put them in a zip lock and just take small bits at a time and freeze what I am not using.

Some will be, but if you don't feel safe about it just toss them and get new ones.
