I would like to start a 10 gal community with my betta victor. I was thinking about getting some platies, but I did some research and found that they are live bearers and I don't want to have to take car of a whole bunch of babies are they as bad as mollies in being "the rabbits of the sea"?
If you are going to house platies with a Betta you will need to have all females...so that will take care of the breeding problem..Also...If one of the platies you buy does have fry than most likely the Betta will eat them..
I think someone said that you need to have all females with a betts although I am unsure why. I would go with all males though because as already said there would be no Chance of them being pregnant. Also they look a little more handsome.
If the platies do breed (I should say when, actually, because they will), the betta will most likely make sure that none of the fry have a chance to grow up. They are bite-sized, and both the platies (even the mum) and the betta will snack on them.
A little grim, perhaps, but it will keep the platy population down... or at least under control.
