Unhappy I feel AWFUL!!!!

I was in a rush this morning cleaning betta tanks. I was on the last of 7 tanks I had to do today when I started the siphon and took my eyes off the tank for a minute to do something else. The betta in that 5 gal. tank was sucked up, I didn't notice and then poured down the toilet with the dirty water!!!!

Lesson learned - NEVER, EVER rush through tank cleaning!!!!!

I just feel HORRID and miss my little computer buddy (he was on my computer desk).

I'm SO sorry! This is why I always take my fish out of the tank when I siphon. I don't want to take the chance of losing them.

It is horrible when these tragedies happen. I heard of a story of a man accidently trapping his ferret in a plastic bucket while cleaning the cage and it suffocated.
I cannot imagine going through an experince like that. I am so sorry.

Oh gosh! I'm so sorry about your accident!
Kilo got his face sucked into the siphon tube once. I was using the tube by itself to change water and like you, I left him for a second or two. He survived and I never used just that tube again but I always, always wedge and sink the siphon itself in gravel if I'm just using it to change water. If I'm vacuuming I try not to lift it much. I leave the same gravel in the tube and just drive it along the bottom. I try not to pull it out at all. I'm so sorry. It was an accident. Don't feel bad. We all make mistakes.

Thanks all!!! Gosh, I STILL can't believe I did that!!! That is a FIRST for me and I have been keeping fish for 10 years or so!

Well, like I said, lesson learned! If I am EVER in that big of a rush again, I will just put it off for a few hours or even wait till the next day.

Thought some of you might like to see the guy I'm getting next week as a replacement (heck, the tank is up & running). Since he will be on my computer desk, I'm thinking of naming him either 'Puter or Bytes. Opinions?

First name that came to mind. When I saw him I thought that the little dark marble pattern on him looked pixelized.
