a stuffy room

I always sleep with my door closed in my room. I keep almost all of my aquariums in my room and when I wake up my room is very stuffy and weird smelling. After I leave the door open for about 45 minutes the smell and stuffiness is gone. Here is list of all my fish tanks in that room.

-10 gallon betta tank (planted 2 50% water changes a week)
-5.5 betta tank (planted one 50% water change a week)
-40 gallon goldfish tank houses 2 large goldfish (one 90% water change a week)
-2 2.5 gallon(2 50% water changes a week)

Is this Normal to a have a slight odor when the door is closed for a long time.
It doesn't smell bad but it doesn't smell good either. It's borderline.

Does anyone else have this problem? If it is not normal what should I change? Is is bad water quality?

Hey that's weird. I have two tanks in my room myself, never open either the door or the windows, and I don't smell anything. But then again I only have one planted 5.5gal, and then an empty soon-to-be-planted 2.5 gal. Perhaps it's the goldfish tank. They poop a lot, gotta be stinky :P

that may be. But the goldfish tank never smells bad. All my tanks smell normal. The have an earthy smell to them. So I wonder why my room would smell, and it's only when the door is left closed.

I think a slight odor is normal since water that has something living in it smells a tad different than water straight from the tap. That and at least a little moisture escapes the tank since it's pretty hard to do a 100% perfect seal on a tank lid.

I have three aquariums in my room, a 4g, a 10g, and a 5.5g, plus two cups of daphnia. My entire family complains my room smells (but I think my brother's room smells worse. He never opens the door and it perpetually smells like artificial male-scented things like Axe and Old Spice) and my mom is convinced I am due to early arthritis (nevermind that joint pain due to water is the change in barometric pressure due to storms, not water itself.).

.......but I really can't smell a thing unless I have just washed the sponge filter in a bucket and I've forgotten to rinse it for a month since I rinse it every other week so sometimes I accidentally skip too many.

I think I'm just used to the smell.

I only get a smell if I spill tank water (or plant ferts) on the carpet and don't get it out quickly. My tanks smell like wet plants if anything(because they have live aquatic and riparium plants). My nose is clogged most of the time so i don't smell anything anyways.

Personally I have two tanks in my room, a 5.5 with a hole in the lid, curse you fluval spec v. and a 20 long with a screen lid and two axolotls, and a close topped 5.5 in my connected bath room. All these tanks are kept meticulously clean with water changes as needed. I feel like the axolotl tank smells earthy and to people outside the hobby, fishy/dirty? whatever it is outsiders of the hobby don't like. However everyone in my life is polite enough not to say anything. I do have the ac running almost constantly, and my door is closed 24/7, so I feel like that makes me not smell it. Sometimes I burn a candle but only because I like the smell of them lol.

Maybe try running a fan in your room or getting some of those glade plug in things?

I could try that. The smell doesn't bother me that much but I was just wondering if it was normal.

I have the sameish problem, it's the joy of fish. Goldfish do poop more, so expect more odor from them. I find fake planted tanks with carbon have next to no scent, but my planted one didn't smell very good after I removed the carbon. Here's some things that make fish smelly and stuff that gets rid of the smell.

Live plants, if the plant is going through a melt its gonna be nasty.
Dirtied tank, my mistake was assuming it would smell fine.
Large bioload fish, my snail made my tank smell a good deal worse.
Driftwood, I had some that wasn't sturdy, mistake again.
Fertilizers, after adding my fertilizer my room smells like flourish.

Carbon, stops bacteria blooms, stops algae if its a new tank, pretty much all nasties.
Fake plants, not silk, plastic, my tank was so nice smelling before I went live.
Very clean gravel
Clean everything. Leave only the basics (filter, decor, light, heater, water, plants) if you really don't want smell.

This is only off my experiences.

Totally normal! Sorry didn't mean to make you feel like you needed to do something about it, just thought I'd suggest that if you did!
