Yes, the Hawkeye is a lot more room for the, but, like you, I LOVE the look of a bowl so that is why I broke down and did the 2 gal. one. :)

The Hawkeye is a very good looking tank, IMO, and it LOOKS larger than 5 gals.!!! It comes with everything except the heater, gravel, decorations and fish.

As for water conditioner, I use Prime as do many on the board here. It is an EXCELLENT product and economical since you only need 2 drops per gallon of new water.

No, salt doesn't hurt them.

Here is a pic of the first Hawkeye 5 gal. tank I purchased shortly after I set it up - enjoy!

And a 2nd pic to show how I baffle the filter - same way as the other poster's pic.

You're welcome, you;re welcome, you're welcome - LOL!!!

Glad you enjoyed the pics - can't WAIT to see yours! :)

BTW, I don't know if they carry that tank IN Wal Mart, but shipping isn't all that expensive. I purchased all three of my Hawkeyes on-line from WalMart since it is a 60 mile round trip to the nearest store for me. I figured by the time I paid for gas, used up the time and all the EXTRA money I would have spent "since I was there", shipping was actually cheaper!!!

You can also ship site-to-store, which is free! But it takes like a week.

I had mine shipped to me, like Lion Mom, and the total was only like $34 which is still a great deal for a kit.

Well good news! Stitch finally has his 5 gal. hawkeye![=
i just had a question about the filter, it seems so strong.. my poor stitch has to keep fighting the current, and looking at both your pics, it seems that the filter mine came with is different then yours=/
so i was just wondering what i could do to make it less strong..
thank you soo much again for the awesome recomendation, im loving the look and am so happy he has more space[=

Any way to take a picture of the filter?

So happy you managed to get a Hawkeye! They go out of stock so often.

For the moment, try to stick a decoration in front of or under the filter outtake to divert the flow.

His tank is pretty empty=/
but when i get money i plan to go on a little shopping spree[=
i hope this helps, this is the first filter ive ever used, so i really have no knowledge of baffling..
also today i read something about cycling?
i also have no clue what that is?
so any feedback would be awesome and greatly appreciated!
thanx again!

Cycling is basically when beneficial bacteria builds up in your tank to help clean it. After your fish has lived in there for a while, it will cycle. You just have to do a little bit more water changes till then.

It is really easy to baffle a filter. Just buy a sponge (try to avoid dish sponges because they will mold if they sit in the water). You can buy some really cheap sponges made for aquariums at any pet store.
Cut it to fit the out take, 'water fall', part of the filter and then put a rubber band over the sponge and the filter and that will hold it in place. :)
