Thanks! I catch him sleeping like that all the time, I think it's his favorite place to crash.

kfish, I took your suggestion about live plants and picked up a low light Anubias today at Petco while I was getting a test kit. My betta doesn't seem to care one way or another but I bet the cory cats and snails I plan on getting later will love it.

Hiya and welcome to the forum,
Thats a nice Betta you got there and a lovely tank for him.
Don't forget Anubias don't have their roots planted in the substrate (tying them to the ruins using fishing line would look good).

Thanks for telling me that lol...both the guy at Petco and the instructions with the plant say to bury it in the substrate, but everything on google confirms exactly what you're saying...

Awe he's adorable, I just got a new one too!
Once a week 50% seems a little much for a filtered 10 gallon, when I got mine they said a 25% water change would be fine every 2 weeks or so, or to do it when it looked like it needed it.

Hmmm... I think it really depends on what a test kit says. I know for my 5g, I had to do one or two changes a week before it was cycled. Sometimes, I had to change like 75% of the water. But I was really picky - I didn't want ammonia higher than .25 ppm EVER.

Thanks for the tips and compliments everyone!

For the water quality, I'm keeping an eye on the parameters and judging by that...after the first day my ammonia was at 0.25 but after I added the plant it went down to 0, now today it's in between 0 and 0.25. Nitrite has been at 0 since day one. I think once it starts to definitely edge beyond 0.25 I'll do a partial water change.

As for my tank, I'm glad you guys like it! It's been growing on me too, and I recently used a gift card I got over the holidays to order more stuff for my tank online in anticipation for the cories I want to get once the tank is cycled. It's staying with the same theme but will give them more hiding places.
