Mystery snails

I want one. A lot.

But can I keep one in a cycling 10 gallon, fish and snail in? (Lol, not fishless, not fish in, but fish and snail in, to clear confusion) Or would one destroy a planted tank? How can I avoid destruction of my planted tank if one does decide to eat it? And are mystery snails of those snails that leaves the water? And can it self reproduce (baby snails= blah) And how messy are they? Thanks.

The species sold around here most likely will leave my plants alone... yay!

My PH is pretty high. It's like 8.2. I don't know what the exact hardness is, but it is HARD. In the dishwasher we have too add this special stuff in each load or the whole inside of it will turn almost pure white from water stains 0.0. So do I need to give a snail anything for calcium? Or am I good?

Perhaps... They like Harder water since it's good for their shells.

I have another snail question everybody.

What exactly do you feed them? My LFS sells the "Golden mystery snails". They only eat dead aquatic plants and what people give them. What, so I drop down an algae wafer and a veggie? What type of vegatables can I use? How do I prepare them? Thanks!

Algae wafers, blanched lettuce, carrots or whatever they find is fine for them. They basically like anything leafy or squishy when cooked, easier for them to eat.

That site I linked you to said the same thing hahaha... they are not picky. If one snail dies... most likely the other snails will eat that one too. Haha

I got a golden mystery snail today after a bit of research. He/she was the healthiest and most active one there, but his/her shell seems a little off. Does this look right? And if not, how can I cure the problem?

Also, how do I introduce him/her to the main tank? And do I need to somehow wash him/her off first? And if so how? Thanks!

Umm... since no one's responding and this poor snail has been in his bag with petstore water for a long time, I'll just do that trick where you remove some of the old water and add some of the new water as if this snail was a fish.

WARNING: If your Betta bites your mystery snail, he may have a patch of scales missing from his head!

That's right. He bit the snails antennae and his head scraped the edge of the snails shell. Hopefully it isn't serious )=> the snails antennae is kind of shriveled and useless about halfway...
