It is possible that they could just be harmless detritus worms.

Haha don't worry, planaria only really get out of control if you overfeed or have large amounts of detritus like dead leaves, decaying fish food etc. on the bottom of your tank. If you're worried about it harming your fish, I have all sort of wriggly creepy crawlies (hundreds of tiny worms, gnats and even a centipede or two) in my open-top tank, and the fish in there is one of the healthiest I own.

Just don't start obsessing over them like I did when they first appeared, because it's probably going to be next to impossible killing them all off. I know because I tried and failed...dismally.

Eeeuuuwww!! I hate creepy crawly things. I'll never have live plants because of all the bugs, worms and snails.

If you wash the plants off then the stuff would get washed out, but my dad insisted it would seed the tank if I didn't wash it.

Littlebettafish: Centipeeds?????? I'd have the biggest panic attack in the world. This forum would have no peace for days XD

... Oh do I even want to post pictures of what I found when researching those white dots so long ago.

It's Bristle Worms and they can get huge and live in your substrate and you wouldn't even know you had them. Get to like a foot long. Covered in barbs that are poisonous...

MWAHAHAH FEAR THE FIREWORMS! *Gets strangled by a long limb from his hornwort plant* ACK! I knew you were too big for the tank! *Getting dragged off toward the tank* I'll get root tablets I SWEAR!
