Creating a Color Line - Help!

Obviously color isn't going to be the only factor in choosing breeding stock, but I want to create a line of true-orange CTs. Like pumpkin orange. I haven't ever been able to find CT stock that is the right color to start out with, so how would I go about choosing the right pair to start out with? Do I start with the two brightest oranges I can find? Or would a pair or different colors give me more of what I'm looking for? I'm great with horse genetics, but bettas are so much more complicated, especially when it comes to colors :P This is the finnage/body type I am going for:

Lol! Thanks! :) It will be my first time breeding. I'm hoping to try an outdoor spawn if the weather gets warm enough this summer. I have heard that OrangeXOrange spawns tend to get a more washed out orange, so I will have to do a fair amount of outcrossing :p

ETA: Look at the female I just found on Aquabid! I wish my sorority tank was ready :/

Wow she's gorgeous!!! :D I'm not sure how you out cross (I don't know betta genetics either) but maybe a red male would help darken out the color? =]

Oranges are really hard to work with. Orangexorange lines usually tend to wash out so you have to out cross to red or yellow. I would start off with an orange pair or possibly a red/yellow pair.

I hope you have soft water or R/O because CTs are notoriously hard to get nice fins on. Even the ones you posted have curled rays.

Yea I plan on doing a fair amount of outcrossing. And I know about the water, my CT's do great in it, so I don't think there will be an issue there
