I've never been in a hurricane, but when my grandparents lived down south they were hit by Katrina. My grandmother wanted to leave so that they wouldn't get hit, but my grandfather was stubborn and didn't want to leave his house. They called our house before the phone went dead and let us know that the hurricane was on it's way and was extremely close to them. It terrified me because as I talked to her I could hear the winds whipping her house and howling outside. We told her to get to higher level because they'd be safer. My grandfather has a hard time walking so they had to get off the phone with us in order to get to higher ground. An hour later we tried to call, but the phones were all dead in her area because the hurricane had caught up with them. I waited for hours with butterflies in my stomache because I knew that my grandfather couldn't walk fast and that it hurt him to walk and I thought that they weren't fast enough. I stayed up all night to recieve the phone call from the shelters, but didn't get it until noon the next day. My grandmother explained to us that when they got onto their roof they thought they were going to die because the water was almost taking their whole house, but their neighbors came on time with a boat and took them away through the hurricane towards shelter. My grandmother was upset about her three cats because she couldn't find them. She knew that they'd made it out of the house and to safety, but she wanted to find them again. She knew it was hopeless. Her favorite cat was one which she named after me. Brittany was a gorgeous all black cat and will always be missed. We decided to stalk up on gasoline and pick them up in our truck and ended up getting a police escort. People became extremely violent because they ran out of gasoline on the roads and we'd given the police some of our gasoline so they could carry on with their jobs resulting in them giving us a police escort until we got out of the state. Having a police escort made us get in and out of that state faster than anyone ever could. Now my grandparents live up north with us so they don't have to worry about the hurricanes.

Wow, that's crazy, Barrix! I feel really bad about the cats. :( I hope they were okay.

I'm glad your grandparents got out of there safely.
