Question Preparing slate rocks

I got a nice looking piece of slate for my 10g at my LPS, but I don't know how to prepare it. I have a feeling it was dug up and has been in that store for months, maybe years, because there was a fine dusty powder of dirt.

I rinsed it under warm running water and scrubbed the majority of the dirt off, what do I do next?

Rinse it and scrub with the hottest water you can stand, then if it looks good enough, into the tank it goes! :D

What do you mean by slate? Is it a decoration?

Slate is a thin piece of rock that often goes in fish tanks, cause it looks nice :3

How do they get it to stay up like that? If I ever start a sorority I want it to have this.

I believe they stick aquarium sealant on the rocks as they stack them, so they dont tip over and hurt the fish :D

Ok, because that would be some amazing balancing. But I didn't even think about anything like that. Maybe I'll go make some mini ones now or something.
