I am really not sure what you mean. Maybe you could post a picture of the setup of explain it a bit more clear. What is the tank taped to and why is he in quarantine?

some people mentioned quarantining him for fin rot, but since he is the only fish I just treated the entire tank. and for a tank, I was told its easier to float a cup so it stays warm in his tank but its easier to change the water in the smaller cup..

if the tape comes loose, he would fall in the tank, the cup would fill with water and thus not have air to breathe in
