I always cover the top of the net with my hand just in case I also dont go ape crazy and start swishing the net around like mad. I let them swim into it or coach them into the net I havent had a problem yet....

The little guy was just in shock which happens a lot with stressful water changes. Some people scoop them out with a cup, others will leave them in the tank, and people like me use nets when necessary.
But I ONLY use brine shrimp nets! I find the regular nets are to rough for their tails but the BS ones have a very smooth fabric on them that has never damaged their fins.

Yes, I got mine at Petco. They have a white fabric on them instead of the regular net material.
This is the one I have:

Yeah, his fin is making it look extremely pale and bloated... If you look at him in real life he's completely flat.

You can also see in my profile pic that he has pinkish fins, so when they are against his body it makes a pale/pink spot.

My male seemed to be happy after escaping the net. He just landed on the warm carpet. To him the net probably means death (Bird's mouth) so know wonder he was happy!

Exactly. But I don't know how mine felt, his tank is around 81 degrees with the light on so I don't know how it felt for him to hit 79 degree floor... :3

nice picture! i love his colors.

EDIT; i also use a brine shrimp net. its 3 inches. got it at pet smart for 6 bucks. the blue material is much softer. and when i don't use it to scoop him out of the tank, i use it to mix conditioner into my water change bucket. It's multi-purpose!!!!lol

These are the only nets I use for all my fish. They feel like silk and last a long time. They don't get snagged on anything ether.
