Chronic tailbiting..

Hey guys! I haven't posted in a while, I've been busy.. Nettle has been biting his tail more and more lately, but I can't figure out why. e.e I tested his water and the levels are all normal. It's not shredded from a decoration, because I've caught him biting it twice.

Any thoughts on what else it could be? He's in a 5gal by himself.. Everything in the tank seems fine, he's eating fine.. I just can't figure it out. I literally change part of his water almost every other day because for a while it seemed like he was biting because of the water quality, but now I don't even know.

well, i have the exact same problem. but here are a few tips.

- move your betta tank to a higher traffic area or vice versa
- keep you room darker
- Tank mate? (snails?)
- new foods?


Many people say that moving your betta to a higher traffic area could stop tailbiting. but for me it was vice versa. i covered his tank with a dark towel, leaving a small area facing the wall uncovered so he could breathe.

I have the same problem hun, Honestly if you have thought of everything and he is stilll doing it, he could just be forming a bad habbit.
My bettas have sadly... gotten into the habbit of nipping there tails to in a way show who is the better betta ( split glass tank) and when i tryed to use a divider to hide them from eachother the just shreaded there tails i guess in retaliation cause they must like being terds to eachother. So hopfully your guy will grow out of it. sadly for me ill prob have this problem for awhile.. not much you can do.
